Peeling usually begins by Day 3. Once the skin starts peeling, do not to peel or pick at the skin. Excess skin may be trimmed away with small scissors. This is very important because such actions may cause irritation, scarring or pigmentation. After your skin is done peeling ( around Day 7), you can go back on your normal skin care routine. It is important that you do not elevate your body temperature or perform activities that cause you to perspire for at least five days after the peel. This includes exercise, hot tubs, saunas, hot showers or baths.
Receiving a chemical peel during summer months increases the chance of hyperpigmentation. Because of this increased risk, it is imperative to follow after care instructions diligently.
During the peel phase sun exposure must be avoided. The use of sunscreen is essential. You may go outside once the peeling subsides, but your skin will be more sensitive to UV rays. You must apply SPF every two hours when outdoors.
Starting on Day 2 apply Post Peel Protectant every two hours.
Do not exfoliate or use a facial brush for at least 10 days after receiving the peel.
During the peeling process use the Vi Derm Cleanser included in your after care kit. If more cleanser if needed we suggest our Limu Cleanser.
Do not pick or peel skin as this may cause scarring. Allow skin to shed naturally. You may trim excess skin with a small pair of scissors.
Refrain from any activity that induces excessive perspiration for 3-4 days following the peel as this may lead to blistering and/or hyperpigmentation.
Following these directions closely will reduce risks as well as itching and discomfort.
Avoid alcohol, fish oil, Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Aspirin, Aleeve, Midol, Pamprin, Celebrex, Mobic, and other drugs in this class), oral vitamins A, D, E, and K, CLA and other fat metabolizing supplements three days prior to pellet insertion. These drugs can cause increased likelihood of bleeding.
